June 25 is National Catfish Day.
Former President Ronald Reagan proclaimed this day in honor of farm-raised catfish in 1987. Reagan's decision followed an increase in America's consumption of farm-raised catfish. In his official proclamation, Reagan noted catfish's impact on the economy, particularly jobs.
In a statement, Reagan said, "I call upon the people of the United States to observe this day with appropriate ceremonies and activities."
