Portland, OR-- As the App store turns five, this story shows that adults and teenagers aren't the only ones who likes them.
CBS Station KOIN in Oregon, met a toddler who used her dad's ebay app to buy him a car. And she didn't just buy any car, she purchased him an Austin Healey Sprite. According to the station, 14 month-old Sorella Stoute bought a 1962 Austin Healey Sprite on eBay last month.
The girl used the eBay app on her dad's smartphone to make the $225 purchase. The kicker... Dad had no idea he was the owner of a new ride!
Paul Stoute, the child's father, didn't know about it until he got a congratulatory email from eBay. He double checked and yes, the notice from eBay was right.
"She decided to open the eBay app, and started clicking around and one thing led to another and we own a car," he told KOIN 6 News, laughing.
Mom and Dad had an "initial panic," he said. "'What do we do? We can't really afford it' kind of thing."
But they decided to keep it.
They called Sorrella's grandmother, Carlene Stenejhem, and told her the toddler just bought a car.
The Stoute family lives in a condo in Portland, and they're keeping the Austin Healey is at her grandparents' Milwaukee home.
Paul Stoute said he'd like to restore the car and just started a page on a fundraiser website.
"I've done a lot of body work in the past, like bondo and stuff like that," he said. "But this is another realm altogether."
Maybe he'll give it to her for her 16th birthday or for graduation.
"I'm just glad she didn't buy the $38,000 Porsche I was looking at," he said.
Lesson learned and Dad has now activated the facial recognition technology and has a new PIN code, just in case little Miss Sorella ever gets the shopping bug again.
