Icy conditions caused 41 vehicles to pile up in a chain reaction just after noon Monday on southbound Interstate 75 in southern Kenton County, Ky.

Six people were hurt, none with life-threatening injuries.

Kenton County Police Sgt. Ben Wilson said the accident occurred at 12:22 p.m. About 20 vehicles were disabled and hauled away on flatbed trucks from the scene.

Douglas Sage, of Dry Ridge, said it was snowing and visibility was about 100 feet when vehicles started sliding. A vehicle behind him slipped and flipped over in a culvert.

While Sage and others were helping the people in the overturned vehicle, it was struck by another car, injuring some of those who stopped to help, he said.

William Hill, of Corinth, Ky., said his wife, Paula, was transported from the scene with a broken rib. He was uninjured but his Jeep Liberty was heavily damaged. He said the accident was just a blur of vehicles spinning on the icy road and slamming into one another.

A TANK bus from the Northern Kentucky mass transit authority was called to the scene to transport people involved in the accident. Salt trucks were called in to treat the highway.

All lanes were reopened shortly before 4 p.m.
