Guilford County, NC -- Last Thursday, a traffic accident that involved multiple cars closed lanes on eastbound Interstate 40 blocked for several hours. The crash was near mile marker 139 around the Gibsonville exit.

Monday, NC Highway Patrol said 2 year-old Jamree Charles died Sunday from injuries, after being thrown from a car during that crash. Trooper Greg Ingram said Charles was not properly restrained in a child safety seat or by a seat belt.

According to Highway Patrol, the crash happened when the driver over-corrected several times while avoiding a car that was heading into their lane.

The driver, Sherika Chandler, 39, was driving a 1995 Isuzu with 6 family members when the crash happened.

Three of the passengers, Jevon Scales, Jr., 2, Jamree Charles, 2, and Darious Chandler, 17, were ejected from the SUV due to the impact of the crash.

The two toddlers were not properly restrained in safety seats.

Chandler's daughter, Jordan Chandler, 19, was in the passenger seat and uninjured. Also in the vehicle were Kanish Gibbs, 21, and Karma Miles, 4 months old. They were also left uninjured.

The Highway Patrol is still looking into the wreck to determine an exact cause.
