Raleigh, NC -- Two people were arrested on Thursday for fraud in a hurricane insurance claim scheme.
Paul Brown, from Greensboro, and Chancey Vaughn, from Gibsonville, were each charged with one felony count of obtaining property by false pretense, one felony count of insurance fraud and one felony count of conspiracy.
Brown and Vaughn allegedly conspired to damage property in Halifax County that Brown partially owned. Vaughn was hired for carpentry work as an unlicensed general carpenter on the property.
Investigators said that Brown filed fraudulent wind and water damage claims that happened as a result of Hurricane Irene. He was given $5,000 from the North Carolina Farm Bureau Insurance Company.
After being arrested by the Guilford County Sheriff's Department, Brown was released under a written promise to return to court. Vaughn was held under a $4,000 unsecured bond.
