Wake Forest Baptist Medical Primate Center Monkey Captured Tuesday

Davidson County, NC-- The 10 days of freedom by a research monkey has finally come to an end.

Tuesday afternoon, Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center officials confirmed the animal had been captured. The Monkey escaped from the Primate Center in Davidson County on Friday, June 29.

After being tranquilized by Davidson County Animal Control, the 16-year-old female monkey was returned to the Friedberg Campus.

During a news conference, Dr. Richard Young said the monkey will be quarantined for several weeks. Dr. Young said the community played a big part in capturing the animal with information they provided on its whereabouts.

Lexington Police, Davidson County Sheriff's Office, and Forsyth County Animal Control worked together to ensure a safe capture of the monkey.
