Michigan-- A 44-year-old Michigan man says he quit his job as a railroad engineer only hours after realizing that he had won the state's $337 million Powerball jackpot and advises his mother, sister and brother-in-law to do the same, the Lansing State Journal reports.
Donald Lawson claimed the prize -- the biggest in Michigan history -- with his relatives by his side today in Lansing, Mich.
"The rest of my family is going to be taken care of," says Lawson, of Lapeer, Mich., who has two college-aged daughters.
Lawson says he plans to travel, and likely will leave the Lapeer area, but will take his time deciding exactly how to handle his lump-sum payment of $224.6 million.
"This money won't last forever unless I budget it right and spend it right," he says.
Lawson's mother, whose name was not released, says her son is unlikely to change with his newfound wealth.
"We come from poor people, and so he knows the value of a dollar," she says, the Journal reports.
Lawson says he didn't pick any special numbers, just took what he was handed.
