DeMatha Catholic High School in Hyattsville, Md. is nationally renowned for its athletic programs, notably football and basketball, and thus the Stags often play games out-of-state.
Sometimes, that can lead to problems.
The Washington Post reports that five players have been removed from the program after prostitutes were allegedly hired from a call service to the team hotel following the team's 52-14 season-opening win at Hillside (N.C.) last Friday.
Two players withdrew from DeMatha, two others have been recommended for expulsion pending appeal and a fifth faces a disciplinary hearing, two people with knowledge of the incident told The Post.
DeMatha had 18 adults supervising the trip and there were reportedly bed checks at 1:30 a.m. with a final hallway check at 4 a.m., early the morning after the Friday night game.
According to a parent of one of the players who withdrew, players brought the three prostitutes into the hotel at 5 a.m., after using a website to hire the women.
The names of the five players facing discipline have not been made public. All five are minors and non-starters on the team, according to The Post.
"I can't comment on anything except to say when people are on field trips they are exceptionally chaperoned," DeMatha principal Dan McMahon told The Post. "On this trip there was full coverage by supervisors and we are extremely pleased with the way we monitor kids and keep everybody safe."
