Summerfield, NC -- While many of us can remember the exact moment we learned we were attacked by terrorists on September 11, it's a simple history lesson for the youngest generation.

But one Triad family still recognizes firefighters, police officers, and other first responders gave their lives that day and spent their day honoring those who still work to keep us safe.

11-year-old Christa Simaan, her old sister, Grace, and her mom, Mirna, delivered cookies, brownies, and homemade thank you cards to fire departments in the area, a simple way to say thanks.

Christa said, "That many people gave up their life, and firefighters tried as good as they can to help save as many people as they can and we thank the firefighters today for what they did."

Mirna said, "I think its very important to remember today and mark it as our American history it defines who we are." She encouraged her daughters to make today's special gifts because, "its important to thank the firefighters and let them know that we appreciate them for what they do everyday not just on 9/11. But its easier to do today because of the anniversary."
