Raleigh, NC -- An Amber Alert issued for a 12 year-old Carteret County girl on Monday has been cancelled.
Abigale Faith Lefevers was reported missing by her father that night. He told investigators he last saw her before bed at 10 p.m. and when he woke up at 6:25 a.m., she was gone.
Deputies said the girl was with Timothy Howard Newman, 38 and both have been located in Florida. The Carteret County Sheriff tells WFMY News 2 they were found in Coral Gables Florida after they received a tip.
Officers with the Hallandale Beach Police Department stopped Newman's car on I95 and arrested him. The sheriff said the girl is being taken to hospital to be checked out.
Carteret County investigators are working with the FBI to get the girl back to North Carolina.
The last person to see Newman was his roommate Sunday night, and Newman did not go to work Monday morning.
Newman's red, 1998 Chrysler Sebring (license plate number: AKT6534) was last seen on US17 SB near the South Carolina border around 1:42 a.m Tuesday.
Investigators say Newman had been making contact with Abigale the past few weeks. Newman is a registered sex offender.
The girl's father told the media he warned Newman to stop texting and making contact with his daughter.
