A Man Was Electrocuted As He Was Attempting To Remove Copper Wiring From Railroad Tracks

(Winston-Salem, NC)  --  Officers with the Winston Salem Police Department were notified of a possible deceased person in the 3000 Blk of N. Liberty St.

On arrival officers located a black male who was deceased. Emergency Medical Personnel were on the scene and confirmed the death.

The deceased was located by a Norfolk Southern Railroad worker who was checking the tracks along the train yard. The body was located on the property of Norfolk Southern Railroad at the base of a utility pole on the west side of the train yard.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the deceased was electrocuted while attempting to remove copper wiring from the utility pole. No foul play is suspected.

The deceased was in possession of wire cutters and other tools which support this conclusion. The utility pole and wiring are also the property of Norfolk Southern Railroad.

The deceased was identified as Johnnie Lee Reed. Next of kin has been notified. The investigation is continuing.
