Roswell, NM -- A daredevil trying to become the first skydiver to break the sound barrier took flight Sunday, in Roswell, New Mexico.
Former Austrian paratrooper Felix Baumgartner began his feat at sunrise. Baumgartner is making a second attempt to ascend to 120-thousand feet in a stratospheric balloon. He will then make a freefall jump rushing toward earth at supersonic speeds before parachuting to the ground.
The jump has already been canceled twice due to high winds.
This Sunday however, luck appears to on his side as weekend weather in New Mexico seems to be cooperating this time.
Baumgartner is trying to break a 1960 high-altitude parachuting record.
He is also testing a pressurized suit that is designed for stratospheric jumps.
The Red Bull Stratos jump team brings together the world's leading minds in aerospace medicine, engineering, pressure suit development, capsule creation and balloon fabrication.
It includes retired United States Air Force Colonel Joseph Kittinger, who holds three of the records Felix will strive to break.
