Mayodan, NC - McMichael high school students get a real lesson on the dangers of texting while driving.
"I think knowing if it's important or not. What's really important...your life or a text message," said Tyler Smith, a McMichael High School student driver.
Highway Patrol was there providing students with golf carts to drive on a coned off course. The demo showed the dangers of texting while driving.
"It definitely taught me not to do it and hopefully it will teach other people too because you see a big difference in it," said Brianna Joyce, a McMichael High School student driver.

Here's some facts about texting while driving:
Teen texting and driving is a national problem, according to the first Federal statistics released on the topic, with 58% of high school seniors admitting that they text or e-mail while driving.
According to the State Adminsitration Office of Courts, 1612 people where charged with texting while driving. And 642 of them were convicted.
There were 120 charges in Guilford Co. alone, with 36 convictions in 2011.
Highway Patrol plans to visit other Rockingham Co. High School before the end of the school year.
Remember, it is illegal for driver under the age of 18 to use cellphones while driving.
It is currently against the law in North Carolina to text and drive. A conviction could cost motorists $100 in fines plus court costs and possible points on your driver license.
