SYDNEY -- A small tsunami killed at least five people and damaged dozens of homes in the South Pacific. That's after a powerful 8.0 undersea earthquake struck in an area off the Solomon Islands. It occurred near Lata in Temotu province, the easternmost province of the Solomons, about a 3-hour flight from the capital, Honiara. The region has a population of around 30,000 people.
The tsunami measured about 3 feet and washed over the Santa Cruz Islands in a region of the Solomon Islands.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center has now cancelled all tsunami warnings for several island nations.
