Winston-Salem, NC -- The State Bureau of Investigation just wrapped up an investigation into the 2012 officer-involved shooting at Kevin Powell Motorsports.
Wednesday, after a thorough review of the SBI report, Forsyth County District Attorney Jim O'Neill determined Detective Michael Poe's use of lethal force was justified.
Around 12:45 p.m., Aug. 17, 2012, Detective Poe, a 25-year veteran of the Winston-Salem Police Deptartment was inside Kevin Powell Motorsports on University Parkway when Dallas Antwan Connor entered the building.
Connor had a shotgun, which he pointed at several employees and customers. He demanded the keys to a motorcycle on the showroom floor.
Detective Poe was alerted to the robbery by an off-duty police officer from another county.
As Connor forced employees toward the back of the store at gunpoint, Poe fired his police-issued gun and shot Conner multiple times.
Connor dove for cover behind a vehicle, with his weapon. Poe continued to shoot at Connor.
Poe covered Connor's gun and called 911. Connor was pronounced dead at the scene.
