Green Bay, WI -- The new big cheese is -- a Wisconsin Gouda. Marieke Penterman of Holland's Family Cheese wins the US Championship Cheese Contest. She scored 98.31 points out of a possible 100. The judging was done in Green Bay, but more than Wisconsin cheeses were in the running. A semi-hard alpine cheese made by Spring Brook Farm and the Farms For City Kids Foundation in Reading, Vermont, is the first runner-up. More than 1,700 cheeses were entered in the contest -- everything from pepper-flavored to sheep cheeses.
