REIDSVILLE, N.C. The Rockingham County Fire Marshal and Sheriff's Office are investigating an apparent arson of a home they say was spray painted with obscenities.
Deputies were called to a home in the 100 block of North Willow Street early Thursday morning after a burglar alarm from a security system was activated. They reported smoke coming from the home and three nearby fire departments came to help.
The fire was quickly extinguished and investigators said there was moderate damage to the interior.
Both the fire marshal and a K-9 officer were called to assist with the investigation. The K-9 officer led investigators to several pieces of evidence that were then sent to the N.C. State Bureau of Investigation's laboratory. Investigators said the spray-painted obscenities were found on the back of the home.
Investigators said the fire was intentionally set, based on the evidence they collected.
The sheriff's office is looking for a male suspect who was seen running from the fire before deputies arrived. They said the person is about 6 feet tall and weighs about 185 pounds and wore dark clothing.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (336) 349-9683.
