SALISBURY, NC - Rowan County deputies are building a case against a 61-year-old woman charged with killing a woman she blamed for ruining her 30-year marriage.
Investigators say 62-year-old Shirley Pierce complained that Marlene Johnson stalked her for six years for no reason. The Charlotte Observer reports that Pierce told a friend she feared Johnson was going to kill her the day before she died.
Authorities say Pierce's boyfriend found her stabbed and beaten to death July 23 in the bathtub of her Kannapolis home. Prosecutors say the attack was so violent that the knife blade broke off in Pierce's throat.
Johnson has been indicted on a first-degree murder and burglary charge. Her attorney says authorities have no scientific proof she killed Pierce and only arrested her because of their ongoing feud.
