YADKINVILLE, N.C. -- A man in Yadkin County is being charged with keeping a family member against their will for several hours and threatening them with a machete.
After investigating the allegations, deputies arrested Patrick Harding Cleary, 48, on charges of Second Degree Kidnapping, Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Injury to Personal Property, Communicating Threats, Interference with Emergency Communication, and Manufacture Marijuana.
Officers said a family member of Cleary's reported that he held them against their will for three hours on Friday and threatened to harm them with a machete. While holding the victim hostage, Cleary allegedly used the machete to destroy personal property in the house. They said he also damaged a phone so the victim couldn't call 911.
The family member was able to escape after Cleary fell asleep, detectives said. Deputies found marijuana was also found growing on the property during their investigation.
Cleary is in the Yadkin County Jail under a $100,000 secured bond.
