GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Police in Greensboro say they believe two different robberies, reported minutes apart from one another, Wednesday morning are connected.
Police were called to the 1500 block of 17th Street shortly before 4 a.m.
A woman told police that someone in a silver car pulled up and blocked her from backing out of her driveway. A man with a gun approached her and demanded money. Investigators said another man approached the woman's car, on the passenger side, and took her purse. They were last seen heading toward Summit Avenue.
She was not injured. She told WFMY News 2, "That was really, really, really scary...to have a gun pointed at your face and somebody demanding money. Something you don't even have. Then, you're worried they're going to kill you because you don't have money."
Shortly after 4 a.m., police were called to another robbery on Sunset Circle. A man told responding officers that as he parked his vehicle a silver car pulled in behind him. Police said two men got out of the silver car and approached him. One of the men hit him in the face, according to the police department. The men were last seen driving toward Elm Street.
The man had a minor injury and refused treatment.
Police said the victims described the suspects as black men. One of the victims said the silver car might have had Florida license plates.
Greensboro Police Officer Doug Campbell said, "Be aware of your surroundings. Robbers want to get very close to you and surprise you. Be looking for them. Hopefully, as people approach you, you'll get a good look at their face and their car."
