Greensboro, N.C. -Multiple problems plagued the Cascades Grandview apartment complex last year. Now, it's now under new management and has a new name -- "The District at West Market."
Former tenants living in the building went weeks without air conditioning in the heat of the summer last year. Elevators broke. Then, the power was shut off and tenants were forced to leave.
Today, it looks so different inside, it's barely recognizable. The looks have changed, the owner has changed and the tenants have changed. It's not open to the public anymore. Only students are allowed to live there.
75 percent of the apartments are already leased out. The apartments will now come furnished. Managers have also updated everything ranging from the fitness center to a new game room.
The management company has been on a bit of an advertising blitz to get attention, but many of the people stopping by are getting referred by current tenants.
"The students are really liking the changes we are making. The inside looks phenomenal. Once you visit, it really speaks for itself...It's new and improved. There's nothing like it. It's very uptown Charlotte. So, we really want people to come and see it and experience it for themselves, " Property Manager Justin Arlequin said.
There is still some work left to do with the renovation process, but the owner has already made two-million dollars worth of upgrades.
Parkstone Capital, based in New York, is now the current owner. The Woodlark Companies, based out of Miami, Florida, is managing the property.
On Saturday, The District is hosting a grand re-opening event from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.. It will include food and entertainment.
