The new center will include 55,000 square feet of indoor recreation and wellness facilities, as well as outdoor fields at Barber Park.
"This is an exciting day, and it's something that everybody can be proud of," said T. Dianne Bellamy-Small of the Greensboro City Council. "It also enhances this whole area as far as what we've been trying to do to give the quality of live, work and play in District 1."
The YMCA has already raised $10 million in donations, but it needs a little more than $1 million more to complete the project.
"We're asking folks to come out and help us raise our final $1 million to get this project on the road and get it done," said Larry Burnett, executive director of the Hayes-Taylor Memorial YMCA.
The Hayes-Taylor YMCA has information on the organization's website about how you can help donate.
