Undated -- North Carolina has advanced in the NCAA men's soccer tournament, while its Triangle counterparts have been eliminated from the field.

Ben Hunter scored two goals to lead the Tar Heels to a 2-0 victory over Providence, the team's eighth straight shutout. North Carolina is now in the round of 16 and hosts Virginia on Sunday.

North Carolina State was playing for the chance to reach the soccer Final Four in Cary, just minutes from campus. Those hopes were dashed when Atlantic Coast Conference rival Clemson took a 3-0 victory. The Tigers scored all of their goals in the second half.

Duke, which earned a bye into the second round, squandered a lead and lost 2-1 to Creighton last night.
