Winston-Salem, NC - The Dash home opener ended in a victory for the home squad as Winston-Salem grinded out a 1-0 win over the Carolina Mudcats Friday evening at BB&T Ballpark.
Carlos Sanchez drew a leadoff walk to start the seventh before scoring from second on a Dan Black RBI single.
Winston-Salem (4-3) didn't record a hit until the fifth inning when Mike Blanke singled before being thrown out trying to stretch it into a double.
Carolina (4-3) starter Mike Rayl took a no-hitter into the fifth inning but got his second loss of the season after giving up a one-out RBI single to Dan Black that scored Sanchez from second.
Andre Rienzo posted six shutout innings in the longest outing for a Dash starter this season. He worked out of a bases loaded jam in the second and stranded seven Mudcats on the night. The right hander also recorded nine strikeouts, one shy of his career high.
The Winston-Salem bullpen allowed only hit over the final three innings. Jon Bachanov recorded three strikeouts in two innings of work and got the first win of the season for a Winston-Salem relief pitcher. Leroy Hunt pitched a perfect ninth inning to notch the save.
The Dash home stand continues tomorrow night against the Mudcats at 7:00 p.m. Spencer Arroyo (0-0, 17.18 ERA) takes the hill for Winston-Salem, while Michael Goodnight (0-0, 7.94 ERA) goes for Carolina.
