Carlos Rodon: NC State Baseball
LYNCHBURG, VA.- N.C. State right-handed pitcher Carlos Rodon have been named the 2012 National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association FreshmanPitcher of the Year, as announced by the organization today.
Rodon, a semifinalist of the Dick Howser trophy, became the first freshman in ACC history to be named either the conference's Pitcher or Player of the Year.
The left-hander was also selected the ACC Freshman of the Year.
Rodon leads the ACC with a 1.57 ERA over 114 2/3 innings pitched.
He finished second in the conference with a 9-0 record, 135 strikeouts and a .176 opponent batting average.
The Holly Springs, N.C. product was an All-ACC First Team selection. The left-hander has received Louisville Slugger All-America first team honors and was named Freshman Pitcher of the Year from Collegiate Baseball News. He has also been selected as one of five semifinalists for the College Baseball Foundation's National Pitcher of the Year Award.
Rodon helped NC State post a 43-20 record and claim the NCAA Raleigh Regional Championship. The Wolfpack is currently ranked No. 11 in the NCBWA Weekly Poll.
