SPARTANBURG, S.C.-- Captain Munnerlyn knows NFL cornerbacks need to have a short memory -- and thick skin.
So when the undersized Munnerlyn hears the criticism suggesting someone else should be starting for the Carolina Panthers at the No. 2 cornerback spot, he doesn't get angry.
He just works that much harder.
He says "there's a lot of people out there who're like, `We need another corner,"' but "it doesn't bother me at all."
The 5-foot-8 Munnerlyn started 14 games for Carolina last season but had no interceptions.
He was targeted 60 times according to STATS and allowed a completed pass 65 percent of the time -- by far the most on the team.
Coach Ron Rivera believes Munnerlyn is capable of starting, but made it clear the No. 2 cornerback spot is open to competition.
