Blacksburg, VA (Sports Network) - Erick Green scored a game-high 29 points as
the Virginia Tech Hokies picked up a 69-62 Atlantic Coast Conference victory
over the Clemson Tigers at Cassell Coliseum.
Green, the nation's leading scorer, knocked down 8-of-12 from the field and
5-of-7 from 3-point range for Virginia Tech (13-16, 4-12 ACC) which had lost
10 of its last 11. C.J. Barksdale added 14 points and eight rebounds and
Robert Brown tallied 13 points as well.
Devin Booker put in 17 points and Milton Jennings and Adonis Filer added 13
points apiece for Clemson (13-15, 5-11) which has lost five straight.
Virginia Tech rolled out to a 36-25 lead at the break by shooting 62.5 percent
from the floor, including a 5-of-9 effort from beyond the arc. Clemson had
just nine field goals on 37.5 percent shooting.
The Tigers pulled to within three points twice in the final three minutes but
were never able to get over the hump. The Hokies had just eight field goals in
the final 20 minutes but knocked in 16-of-18 from the free-throw line.
Clemson had the edge on points in the paint (36-28) but Virginia Tech had the
advantage on the boards (33-21).
