Reno, NV (Sports Network) - A Deonte Burton three-pointer with 11 seconds left
proved to be the game-winner as the Nevada Wolfpack defeated the Utah State
Aggies 53-52 in Western Athletic Conference play at Lawlor Events Center.
Malik Story scored 18 points for Nevada (19-3, 8-0 WAC) and Burton finished
with 13. The Wolfpack have now won 16 consecutive games.
For Utah State (12-11, 4-4), Preston Medlin scored 15 points, Brockeith Pane
tallied 12 points, and Kyisean Reed grabbed 10 rebounds.
Both teams shot poorly in the first half, with Nevada connecting on 30.4
percent of its field goals and Utah State making good on 29 percent of its
tries. The Wolfpack drained two three-pointers to the Aggies none and Nevada
took a 19-18 lead into the break.
Much of the second half was spend on the sea saw as well and Utah took a 52-50
lead with 2:11 remaining on a Pane jumper. After two minutes of scoreless
play, Burton drilled the three-pointer with 11 seconds remaining to give
Nevada the lead. With one last possession, Utah State could not convert and
Nevada held on for the win.
Nevada shot 9-of-15 from the foul line while Utah State went to the stripe
just four times, converting once.
