Jonesboro, AR (Sports Network) - Ed Townsel and Adam Sterrenberg each scored
18 points as the Arkansas State Red Wolves defeated the ULM Warhawks, 72-64,
in Sun Belt Conference action at the Convocation Center.
Rakeem Dickerson added 12 points for the Red Wolves (10-14,4-6 SBC), while
Marcus Hooten chipped in 10 points and Brandon Peterson pulled down 10
rebounds.
Marcelis Hansberry led the Warhawks (2-21, 1-9) with 15 points, Fabio Riberio
finished had 13 points, and Hugh Mingo grabbed 11 rebounds.
ASU was able to hit on 44.4 percent of their field goals in the first half,
including 6-of-14 from three-point range. ULM struggled from the field, making
just 31.8 percent of their shots, and missed all but one of their six three-
point attempts. ASU took a 34-22 lead into intermission.
In the second half, the Warhawks improved their shooting, hitting 41.7 percent
from the field, including 3-of-7 from three-point range. The Red Wolves also
improved, making 50 percent of their shots and 4-of-9 three-point attempts.
ASU led 49-30 early in the second half, but ULM went on 17-2 run to close the
gap to 51-47 with just under eight minutes to play. The Red Wolves answered
with six straight points to push the lead back to ten, and the Warhawks got no
closer than within seven points the rest of the game. ASU hung on to hand ULM
their sixth-straight defeat.
The Warhawks held a 28-18 advantage in points in the paint and a 46-23
advantage in bench points. Each team had 33 rebounds.
