Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - Devonta White scored 13 points, including the
go-ahead three-pointer in the final two minutes, as Georgia State overcame an
eight-point second-half deficit to beat Northeastern 61-59 in Colonial
Athletic Association action at GSU Sports Arena.
Eric Buckner notched a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds for
Georgia State (17-8, 9-5 CAA). Josh Micheaux tallied 13 points and nine boards
and Jihad Ali added 12 points for the Panthers, who have won three straight.
For Northeastern (11-13, 7-7), Joel Smith recorded 16 points and eight
rebounds and Jonathan Lee netted 14 points. The Huskies extend their losing
streak to three games.
Georgia State shot 46.4 percent in the first half while holding Northeastern
to just 38.5 percent to take a 31-24 lead into the break.
Northeastern came out on fire in the second half, going on a 24-9 run to take
a 48-40 lead with 9:52 remaining. Georgia State clawed its way back in it
however and the White three-pointer with 1:44 capped a 17-8 run to give the
Panthers a 57-56 lead. A Jonathan Lee jumper for Northeastern cut the deficit
to one, 60-59, with 24 seconds left. After Georgia State hit 1-of-2 free-
throws, a Joel Smith jumper to tie did not fall for the Huskies.
Georgia State pulled off the comeback despite shooting just 11-of-21 from the
foul line.
