Orlando, FL (Sports Network) - Keith Clanton led all scorers with 20 points as
the UCF Knight staved off a late comeback attempt by the Marshall Thundering
Herd to win 67-60 in Conference USA action at UCF Arena.
Isaiah Sykes added a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds for UCF
(18-6, 7-3 C-USA). Marcus Jordan also scored 15 points and Tristan Spurlock
netted 13 for the Knight, who have won three in a row.
For Marshall (14-10, 5-5), Damier Pitts tallied 18 points and seven assists
while Shaquille Johnson notched 10 points. The Thunder Herd are now losers of
five of their last six games.
Neither team shot well in the first half, with UCF draining 41.7 percent of
its field goals and Marshall connecting on 37.5 percent of its attempts. The
Herd took a 30-28 lead into halftime by outrebounding the Knights 10-4 on the
offensive glass in the frame.
UCF opened the second half on a 16-4 run to take a 44-34 lead with 11:54
remaining. The Knights looked to have the game well in hand until the Herd
ripped off an 8-2 run to cut the deficit to 62-60 with 48 seconds to play. UCF
answered with a Jordan three-pointer on the next possession and a Sykes dunk
inside 10 seconds remaining sealed the victory.
UCF outscored Marshall in the paint, 40-24.
