Fairfax, VA (Sports Network) - Ryan Pearson netted 16 points on 7-of-9
shooting from the field as George Mason ran past Hofstra, 72-62, at the
Patriot Center.
Sherrod Wright scored 12 to go with seven rebounds and Mike Morrison added 10
points for the Patriots (20-6, 12-2 CAA), which remained atop the conference
standings. George Mason, which shot 65.2 percent in the second half, has won
eight of its last nine contests.
Mike Moore had 18 points and Nathaniel Lester 14 for the Pride (8-18, 2-12),
who struggled to a 36.5 shooting percentage. Stevie Mejia finished with 11
points for Hofstra, which has lost to the Patriots in eight of the last nine
meetings.
The Pride ended a seesaw first half with a 32-31 edge, but then saw the
Patriots take control down the stretch. Two free throws from Stephen Nwaukoni
had Hofstra within two points with 3:43 remaining, but Morrison rebounded a
missed three from Wright and his put-back provided a four-point cushion.
Pearson converted a layup inside 2 1/2 minutes and George Mason held on.
The Pride went 5-of-17 from three-point range and was out-muscled in the paint,
36-20. Additionally, George Mason's bench dominated with a 32-13 scoring
advantage.
This marks the 11th 20-win season in program history for George Mason, which
finished the game shooting 52.9 percent.
