Houston, TX (Sports Network) - Jarelle Reischel scored 16 points as the Rice
Owls held off the Houston Cougars 79-71 in Conference USA action at Hofheinz
Pavilion.
Tamir Jackson and Connor Frizzelle both tallied 13 points for Rice (14-11, 5-5
C-USA). Dylan Ennis added 10 points for the Owls, who have won three of their
last four.
For Houston (11-12, 3-7), Jonathon Simmons notched a double-double with 16
points and 10 rebounds. Alandise Harris and Joseph Young each scored 13 points
for the Cougars, who extend their losing streak to three-games.
Rice took a 35-34 lead into halftime. Though the Owls shot just 41.4 percent
in the first half, they drained 7-of-10 from three-point range.
The teams spent much of the second half on the sea saw. After a Joseph Young
jumper gave Houston a 64-63 advantage with 5:59 remaining, Rice answered with
a pair of Omar Oraby free throws to retake a lead it would never relinquish.
Rice outscored Houston on the fast break, 14-2.
