Knoxville, TN (Sports Network) - Skylar McBee scored a game-high 18 points as
the Tennessee Volunteers posted a 69-57 win over the South Carolina Gamecocks
in SEC action at Thompson-Boling Arena.
Also scoring in double figures for the Vols (12-12, 4-5 SEC) were Trae Golden
and Jeronne Maymon with 14 and 12 points, respectively, while Kenny Hall
chipped in with 10 rebounds as Tennessee won for the third time in the last
four outings.
USC (9-14, 1-8) was paced by Bruce Ellington who delivered 12 points and
handed out six assists, followed by Damien Leonard and Brenton Williams with
11 points apiece as the Gamecocks lost their fourth in a row.
UT made good on 7-of-13 shots behind the three-point line in the first half in
order to take a 35-27 advantage at the break.
In the second half the Vols continued to have the hot hand as they connected
on 53-3 percent from the floor, not to mention 15-of-19 at the free-throw line
in order to capture the double-digit win.
Tennessee turned the ball over 14 times on the night, but made up for the
miscues by outscoring South Carolina at the free-throw line, 21-12.
