Normal, IL (Sports Network) - Jackie Carmichael registered a huge double-
double with 18 points and 20 rebounds as he helped lead the Illinois State
Redbirds to a 64-53 win over the Drake Bulldogs in Missouri Valley Conference
action at Redbird Arena.
Tyler Brown accounted for a game-high 26 points, hitting on all 12 of his
free-throw tries, as the Redbirds (16-9, 8-6 MVC) won their second straight
and the fourth in the last five outings.
The Bulldogs (13-12, 6-8), losers of three in a row and five of six, were
paced by Jeremy Jeffers who tallied 13 points, Aaron Hawley added 12 and
Rayvonte Rice 11 points for the visitors.
Illinois State shot just 33.3 percent from the field in the first half ,
connecting on 2-of-11 beyond the arc, but the squad did convert 12-of-14 at
the free-throw line in order to claim a 30-28 edge at the break.
In the second half the Redbirds again had their issues from the floor (.364),
but once more it was a near-perfect performance at the charity stripe (16-
of-17) that allowed the hosts to cruise to the double-digit win.
ISU outscored Drake 28-7 at the free-throw line.
