San Marcos, TX (Sports Network) - Chris Cunningham had a double-double of 11
points and 14 rebounds for the San Jose State Spartans who topped the Texas
State Bobcats 72-55 in the Western Athletic Conference opener at Strahan
Coliseum.
Louis Garrett added 16 points and James Kinney chipped in 12 points for San
Jose State (6-5, 1-0 WAC) which had lost back-to-back games entering play.
Texas State (4-9, 0-1) lost in its first conference game as a member of the
WAC despite a game-high 22 points from Joel Wright. Phil Hawkins also added
10 points for the Bobcats who have lost four straight.
In the first half Texas State hit on just 25.0 percent of its shots from the
floor including misses on all 13 shots from 3-point range. Meanwhile San Jose
State shot an even 50.0 percent from the floor and led 32-19 at intermission.
The Spartans improved to 53.6 percent shooting in the second half en route to
the 17-point win.
San Jose State outscored the Bobcats 48-28 on points in the paint and had a
41-31 edge in rebounds.
