Statesboro, GA (Sports Network) - Eric Ferguson scored 24 points including
eight straight at the end of regulation as the Georgia Southern Eagles rallied
to a 68-64 overtime win over the Georgia State Panthers at Hanner Fieldhouse.
Ferguson shot 7-of-13 from the field and 8-of-11 from the foul line to lead
Georgia Southern (6-7), which never led in regulation. Tre Bussey helped out
with 17 points while C.J. Reed dished out a game-high five assists.
R.J. Hunter and DeVonta White each scored 14 points for the Panthers (5-8) but
committed 13 turnovers between them. James Vincent and Manny Atkins both
netted 11 points with Vincent blocking five shots, all in the first half.
Georgia State scored the first 17 points of the game and led 29-21 at
intermission while holding the Eagles to just 28 percent shooting.
The Panthers led by 10 points with 1:58 remaining in regulation. Brian Holmes
cut it to eight with a steal and layup before Ferguson scored eight straight
to tie the game and force overtime. In that stretch, Georgia State turned the
ball over four times.
Midway through the extra session, C.J. Reed hit a triple to give the Eagles
their first lead of the game. Ferguson followed with a three of his own and
late free throws by Cameron Baskerville sealed the improbable victory for
Georgia Southern.
Georgia Southern leads the all-time series with its in-state rival, 32-13.
