New York, NY (Sports Network) - Steve Frankoski scored 18 points to lead the
Columbia Lions to a 69-58 victory over their crosstown rivals, the Manhattan
Jaspers, in a non-conference affair at Levien Gymnasium.
Frankoski nailed six 3-pointers to account for all of his points and Brian
Barbour and Alex Rosenberg added 14 and 12 points respectively for Columbia
(6-5). Rosenberg also brought in nine rebounds for the Lions who had lost four
of their previous five games.
Rhamel Brown scored 25 points and was a rebound shy of a double-double for
Manhattan (3-8) which has lost five of its last six. Emmy Andujar added 11
points.
At the end of the first half Columbia had a 34-17 edge after shooting an even
50.0 percent including a 6-of-13 effort from beyond the arc. Manhattan managed
only seven field goals and hit just 1-of-8 shots from distance.
The Jaspers improved to 52.0 percent shooting in the second half including
makes on 4-of-6 shots from 3-point range but the Lions kept them at bay by
hitting 47.4 percent of their own shots.
Columbia outscored Manhattan by a 20-9 margin on points off turnovers and
never trailed in the game.
