Boston, MA (Sports Network) - Joel Smith scored a game-high 29 points as the
Northeastern Huskies defeated the William & Mary Tribe, 95-91, in double-
overtime during Colonial Athletic Association action at Matthews Arena.
Smith was 11-of-14 from the floor and recorded four assists in the Huskies'
(12-7, 7-0, CAA) victory. Jonathan Lee and David Walker scored 19 and 17
points, respectively. Zach Stahl scored 11 points and Quincy Ford scored 10
points as Northeastern won its seventh consecutive game.
For the Tribe (7-11, 1-6), Tim Rusthoven recorded a double-double with 25
points and 11 boards. Marcus Thornton recorded 23 points, five assists, and
four rebounds. Kyle Gaillard contributed 13 points and Brandon Britt added 12
points as William & Mary lost its eighth game in a row.
Northeastern started out the game on a 15-6 run, en route to a 34-19 advantage
at the break.
William & Mary fought back in the second half making 19-of-26 from the
floor and 5-of-8 from long range. Brandon Britt made a layup with 13 seconds
left to force overtime.
A 3-pointer by Marcus Thornton with 39 seconds left in overtime would keep the
game alive for William & Mary and force double-overtime.
Northeastern was 5-of-7 from the floor and a perfect 4-of-4 from the
foul line in the second extra session. The Tribe made only 4-of-10 field goals
in double-overtime.
The Huskies force 19 turnovers and were 21-of-23 from the foul line on the
night.
