Towson, MD (Sports Network) - Sherrod Wright scored a game-high 24 points to
lead the George Mason Patriots to a 77-67 victory over the Towson Tigers in
Colonial Athletic Association action at Towson Center Arena.
Wright hit 14-of-17 shots from the free-throw line and brought down eight
rebounds for George Mason (12-7, 6-2 CAA) which has won five of its last six.
Bryon Allen added 16 points and six assists and Marko Gujanicic had 12 points
and was a rebound shy of a double-double off the bench.
Rafriel Guthrie had a team-high 18 points off the bench for Towson (10-11,
4-3) which also got 16 points from Jerrelle Benimon and 14 rebounds from Bilal
Dixon. The Tigers have lost consecutive contests after a short two-game
winning streak.
After hitting 50 percent of its shots in the first half, George Mason led
41-34 at the break. Towson fell behind by putting forth just a 34.3 percent
effort.
In the second half the Patriots continued to shoot well, connecting on 47.8
percent of their field goal attempts while doubling up on the Tigers from the
free-throw line (14-7) to claim the victory.
George Mason had a 17-9 edge in fast break points. Led by Dixon the Tigers
had a 44-34 advantage on the boards.
