Salt Lake City, UT (Sports Network) - John Gage tallied 19 points to lead the
balanced attack as the Stanford Cardinal completed an 87-56 rout of the Utah
Utes in a Pac-12 Conference affair at the Jon M. Huntsman Center.
Gage went 6-of-8 from the floor for Stanford (12-8, 3-4 Pac-12), which saw 12
of its 13 players that saw the floor make a contribution in the scoring
column. Chasson Randle made his mark with 17 points and eight rebounds, Josh
Huestis netted 13 points, and Dwight Powell filled up the stat sheet with 11
points, nine rebounds, and five assists.
Justin Seymour paced Utah (9-11, 1-7) with 14 points on 4-of-9 shooting from
the field off the bench. None of the other Utes managed to score in double-
figures as the team suffered its second consecutive setback.
Stanford seemed to be scoring at will in the early stages of the contest. The
Cardinal made 45.5 percent of their field goal attempts, including 6-of-10
from 3-point range, on their way to a sizeable, 46-26, halftime lead. Utah
shot only 35.7 percent from the floor and trailed the visitors in the
rebounding battle, 24-14, after 20 minutes of action.
The Cardinal extended their lead after halftime by hitting 55.6 percent of
their attempts from the field. The Utes made just one of their seven attempts
from beyond the arc after the break.
Rebounding played a big factor in the lopsided matchup. Stanford enjoyed a
43-27 edge on the boards and converted the Utes' 15 turnovers into 22 points.
