Stanford, CA (Sports Network) - Josh Huestis registered a double-double of 16
points and 13 rebounds as the Stanford Cardinal defeated the Oregon State
Beavers, 81-73, in Pac-12 Conference action at Maples Pavilion.
Chasson Randle finished with team-highs of 20 points and five assists for the
Cardinal (14-8, 5-4 Pac-12), who have now won three in a row. Dwight Powell
and John Gage scored 14 and 12 points, respectively, while Stanford assisted
19 of its 26 makes from the field.
Roberto Nelson paced OSU (11-11, 1-8) with 20 points on 8-of-14 shooting. Joe
Burton notched a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds. Ahmad Starks
contributed 15 points and Devon Collier had 10, but the Beavers were still not
able to avoid their third loss in a row.
The Beavers opened up the contest on an 8-0 run to take an early lead, but
Stanford answered with a 29-11 run that gave the hosts a 10-point lead at the
7:42 mark of the first half. The Cardinal outscored the Beavers, 12-0, in
bench points and also, 17-4, in points off of turnovers to take a 35-33 lead
into the intermission.
Eric Moreland had a huge second half for the Beavers with eight points, eight
rebounds, and three blocks after the break. OSU knocked down 48.5 percent of
its field goal attempts and outscored the hosts, 24-6, in the paint in the
second stanza, but the Cardinal went 7-of-14 from 3-point range and converted
13-of-16 at the charity stripe to extend their halftime lead by six points.
Despite the loss, OSU held a 38-28 edge in the rebounding battle. Stanford
went 14-of-25 from 3-point range and committed only four turnovers en route to
the decision.
