Cape Girardeau, MO (Sports Network) - Nino Johnson posted a double-double with
17 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Southeast Missouri State Redhawks over
the SIU Edwardsville Cougars, 76-67, in an Ohio Valley Conference matchup at
the Show Me Center.
For the Redhawks (12-13, 4-7 OVC), Marland Smith added 13 points on 3-of-4
from beyond the arc, giving him a school-record 220 3-pointers for his career.
Tyler Stone scored 12 points, and A.J. Jones chipped in with 11 points for
SEMO.
Jerome Jones led all scorers with a career-high 31 points for the Cougars
(8-12, 4-6), while Kris Davis finished with 13 points and Mark Yelovich
contributed 11 points.
The Redhawks shot a healthy 50 percent from the field in the first half as
they took a 41-32 lead at halftime. They held the Cougars to just 34.3 percent
shooting in the frame, including 4-of-15 from 3-point range.
After seeing their lead cut to just two early in the second half, the Redhawks
answered with a 13-0 run and never trailed by less than nine the rest of the
way.
SEMO dominated the paint, outscoring SIUE, 32-14. The Redhawks also had a
42-35 rebounding edge.
