Honolulu, HI (Sports Network) - Vander Joaquim tallied his 10th double-double
of the season with 20 points and 12 rebounds as the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors
made easy work of the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks, 84-50, in a BracketBusters
matchup at the Stan Sheriff Center.
Christian Standhardinger shot 8-of-11 from the field for a game-high 21 points
to go with nine boards for Hawaii (16-11), which snapped a two-game losing
skid. Hauns Brereton scored 13 points, Isaac Fotu had 10 points, Jace Tavita
handed out eight assists and Davis Rozitis grabbed 10 rebounds in the balanced
effort for the home team.
DeWayne Russell poured in 14 points for NAU (10-17), which has lost three of
four. Gabe Rogers added 12 points but he did so on only 4-of-14 from the
field.
Hawaii hit on two-thirds of its field goal attempts in the first half (18-
of-27) as it took a comfortable 49-32 advantage into the break.
NAU shot just 39.3 percent from the field in the first half, but it was even
worse after intermission, shooting a woeful 5-of-29 (.172). The Rainbow
Warriors' field goal efficiency also dropped in the second half (.361), but
their lead was never in jeopardy.
Hawaii won the rebounding battle, 47-32, and outscored NAU in the paint, 32-8.
