San Diego, CA (Sports Network) - Yonder Alonso finished 2-for-3 with two runs
batted in as the San Diego Padres took the first game of a three-game set with
the Colorado Rockies in 3-2 fashion Monday.
Edinson Volquez (1-2) picked up his first win of the season by allowing two
runs on five hits and four walks while fanning five over 5 1/3 innings to help
the Padres snap a three-game skid after being swept by Miami.
Dale Thayer recorded his first save in almost three seasons, since his major
league debut on May 22, 2009 with Tampa Bay.
Drew Pomeranz (0-2) suffered the setback, allowing three runs on five hits and
three walks over three frames. He also hit the first home run of his
professional career as the Rockies dropped their fourth in a row.
