(Sports Network) - The Arizona Diamondbacks have reportedly agreed to terms
on a five-year contract extension with catcher Miguel Montero.
The deal is worth around $60 million, according to FOXSports.com.
Arizona is expected to announce the extension at a press conference on
Saturday.
Montero, 28, is hitting .255 with a pair of home runs and 21 RBI this season.
He has missed the last three games due to a left groin injury suffered
Monday against the Dodgers.
Originally signed as an undrafted free agent by Arizona in 2001, Montero had
his best major league season in 2011, as he batted .282 with 36 doubles, 18
home runs and 86 RBI. He was named to the National League All-Star team for
his efforts.
In seven major league seasons -- all with Arizona -- Montero holds a .270
average with 60 home runs and 267 RBI.
