Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - The Pittsburgh Pirates reinstated pitcher
Jeff Karstens from the 15-day disabled list to start Monday's series opener
against the Philadelphia Phillies.
Karstens will be making his first appearance for the Pirates since leaving
after just one inning against Arizona on April 17 with right shoulder
inflammation. He also battled a hip ailment while sidelined.
The 29-year-old Karstens did not factor into a 2-1 win over Philadelphia on
April 7 after throwing six innings of one-run ball. He gave up three runs over
five frames in a 3-2 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers on April 12 before his
next outing was cut short.
To make room for Karstens on the roster, the Pirates optioned pitcher Bryan
Morris to Triple-A Indianapolis.
