New York, NY (Sports Network) - Oakland Athletics outfielder Yoenis
Cespedes was named the American League Player of the Week for the period
ending July 15.
In a shortened week due to the All-Star break, the rookie batted .571 with a
double, two home runs, six RBI and five runs scored to lead the A's to a
three-game sweep of the Minnesota Twins.
Cespedes' week was highlighted by a career-best four-hit performance on
Sunday. Cespedes also homered and drove in three runs in the 9-4 win.
Other players considered for the award include Cespedes' Oakland teammate
Jonny Gomes, Cleveland's Michael Brantley, Minnesota's Josh Willingham, Kansas
City's Alcides Escobar, Seattle's Felix Hernandez and Matt Harrison of the
Rangers.
