Washington, DC (Sports Network) - The Miami Marlins placed outfielder Emilio
Bonifacio on the 15-day disabled list Saturday with a sprained left thumb.
Bonifacio was injured in the ninth inning of Friday's doubleheader nightcap
against the Washington Nationals -- a 5-2 victory. He was removed from the
game after jamming the thumb into the turf while diving for a ball at second
base.
He originally jammed the thumb on May 18 against the Cleveland Indians and had
surgery to repair a ligament tear on May 25.
In 61 games this season, the speedy 27-year-old is hitting .261 with one home
run, 11 RBI and 30 stolen bases.
To take his spot on the active roster, the Marlins recalled infielder Nick
Green from Triple-A New Orleans.
Green, 33, was hitting .344 with 16 doubles, 12 home runs and 47 RBI in 63
games with the minor league squad.
