Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Jeremy Guthrie pitched eight shutout innings to
pick up his first win in a Royals uniform in a 2-1 triumph over the Chicago
White Sox Wednesday night.
Guthrie (1-3), who made his fourth start for Kansas City since being acquired
from Colorado on July 20, allowed five hits and fanned six without walking a
batter. The right-hander, who is a combined 4-12 this season, picked up his
first victory since May 31 against Houston. Guthrie had lost his previous nine
decisions.
Mike Moustakas and Salvador Perez homered off Jose Quintana, as the Royals
took the rubber match of this three-game series.
Greg Holland allowed an RBI single to A.J. Pierzynski in the ninth, but
managed to notch his third save of the year.
